Viachem’s Director of Food, Beverage and Nutrition, Bob Wills, met with Georgia Congressman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise to discuss impacts of proposed Chinese tariffs on Viachem and customers.
Wills voiced an industry wide concern that many chemicals and ingredients imported from China lack American based competitive producers, meaning a proposed 25 percent tariff will result in a price increase of goods for American consumers. In addition, the effect of these tariffs will fail in protecting domestic jobs or industries.
In response, Representative Steve Scalise welcomed Viachem’s concerns expressing that others in our industry have voiced a similar concern. He is working on our behalf to reach a settlement prior to when the proposed tariffs are scheduled to go into effect.
As a company dedicated to serving our customer base, we plan to continue voicing our concern regarding the tariffs and effects to our industry.
