PLANO, TEXAS – September 26, 2018 – Viachem Ltd.’s persistence in challenging tariffs on sucralose led to a major victory for sucralose consumers across the nation.
The US Trade Representative announced the removal of 142 chemical product lines, including sucralose, prior to finalizing the third list of Section 301 tariffs. Viachem’s method to combat the tariff included an extensive letter writing campaign and face-to-face meetings with congressional leadership.
Through consistent negotiations with congressional leaders, Viachem was responsible for the exemption of sucralose from tariffs, saving national food, beverage and nutrition manufacturers over $5 million in excess taxes in 2018, and over $25 million in 2019.
“Viachem’s commitment to leadership within the chemical industry was fully on display as our dedicated team advocated on behalf of manufacturers and consumers alike. We are pleased with the results of this campaign, and hope to continue to collaborate with federal leadership on issues affecting our industry in the future,” said Mike Efting, Viachem Founder and President.
The effort on Viachem’s behalf proved effective not only for our company, but for consumers nationally. We are proud of the outcome and will continually challenge policies on behalf of our industry and customers.
