It’s no secret that MCTs are in high demand. With the recent popularity of the ketogenic diet, the consumption and purchasing of MCT products have taken the industry by storm, and we’re jumping right in finding ways to best supply our customers with the highest quality MCT ingredients.
MCTs benefit the human body in multiple ways. For example, MCTs passively diffuse from the GI tract into the portal vein without the same need for modification that long-chain fatty acids require. MCTs are bland in comparison to other fats, meaning they do not generate flavor or fragrance off-notes, making them easier to consume and mix in with other foods and beverages.
When it comes to food, beverage and nutraceutical applications, MCT ingredients are rapidly absorbed by the body, serving as a good energy source. MCTs are frequently generated into a powder or oil and incorporated into beverages, mixes, nutritional bars and energy foods.
At Viachem, we’re proud to offer a vast range of MCT powder products. Our most common product is a 50% MCT powder on a maltodextrin carrier. This percentage can be increased or decreased as needed and preferred by the customer. Due to the popularity of the ketogenic diet, customers are asking for MCT products that don’t contain carbs. To meet these requests, we offer differing protein carriers such as calcium caseinate, or a non-digestible fiber such as fructooligosaccharide (FOS).
MCT remains relatively stable when at room temperature and in optimal storage, but problems with rancidity and MCT begin when heat, light and air interact with the product. Many companies conduct further processing with MCT powder, causing the product to interact with all three factors increasing oxidation and rancidity.
We’re eager to announce that our team is currently working on manufacturing a “rancid resistant” MCT powder, ViaFresh. This product will be blended with an antioxidant inclusion crafted specifically for customers whose products have a high risk of rancidity. The newly formulated MCT powder will combat rancidity for customers who store and ship their product in the summer months, use processing methods including blending the powder with other ingredients and for those who strive to guarantee a longer shelf-life while also maintaining a clean label presence. ViaFresh will increase shelf stability while remaining rancid resistant.
