Viachem to Distribute Marubeni Vinyl Resins

marubeni corporationViachem has added Marubeni’s Vinyl Resins to its product portfolio, which also includes Marubeni’s F310 Polyvinylidene Chloride (PVDC).

Viachem will provide North American sales, service and distribution for the full product line of vinyl resins, supplementing Marubeni’s direct sales efforts to their key accounts. The decision comes a year after Marubeni transferred sales and marketing of PVDC to Viachem from Univar’s ChemPoint business unit.

Marubeni Vinyl Resins are ideal for use in coatings due to their non-oxidizing and permanently flexible qualities. Available in both powders and solutions, vinyl resins are generally characterized by the absence of color, odor, and taste, as well as their high purity, compatibility and dissolvability. Marubeni Vinyl Resins are frequently preferred by coatings manufacturers due to their low moisture-vapor transmission rate, low order of water absorption, toughness, durability, and heat seal qualities.

“We have seen excellent results in both current customer retention and new customer growth after having transferred our F310 PVDC Resin to Viachem that we are now eager to add another of our specialty products to Viachem’s portfolio,” said Mark Mooney, senior sales and marketing manager for Marubeni. “Viachem has proven their ability to identify new prospects and expand market share throughout the coatings industry. Our vinyl resins are suitable in many applications, and we expect Viachem to once again excel in representing Marubeni to those customers we have not reached in the past through direct sales efforts.”

Kyle Einhorn, vice president of business development for Viachem, says Marubeni will realize even greater gains for both product lines as they expands their presence within Viachem’s portfolio.

“Viachem is the leader in helping international producers of specialty and fine chemicals expand market share in North America with hard-to-reach customers. Specialty chemicals often don’t receive adequate attention from traditional distribution channels,” said Einhorn. “Our professional technical sales team already has a solid working relationship with Marubeni and with users of PVDC resin.  Those relationships will complement our efforts to increase sales for the vinyl resins product line.”

Marubeni’s vinyl resins group is comprised of two distinct product lines. The vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymers and their maleic and hydroxyl terpolymers have been used for many years, and their chemistry is well known to the North American coating industry. The addition of the vinyl chloride/vinyl isobutyl ethers adds a greater breadth of product compatibility and solubility, as these copolymers are completely soluble in ethyl acetate, glycol ethers and other weak polar solvents.
